Great advise John. Isshaq, the risks far outweigh any benefits you may get. Lift heavy, lift hard, get rest, stay clean.

Hi Kyle

The percentages are for your warmup, lets assume your working weight for an exercise is 100lbs, the percentages are your warmup of the working weight, so if you see 50% this would be 50lbs etc. Hope that helps

GENDER:MALE
AGE:50
HEIGHT:5'9"
WEIGHT:212 LBS
BENCH:235 LBS
SQUAT:350 LBS
DEADLIFT:385 LBS
MILITARY PRESS: 165 LBS
BENT OVER ROW: 315 LBS
PULLUPS: 22
BODYFAT: 24% A little more than I like, but hey I'm getting older. LOL
I added three extra exercises that I believe can give a better look at how strong and fit a person is. In the real world I've never had to push something heavy off my chest, but I have had to pull something to me, push something over my head, and pull my body off of the ground. I work out for practicality and strength, not for size. I have five horses and so I stack a lot of hay. I need to be able to pickup a 90 to 120 lb bail of hay, lift it to my chest, and push it over head, (clean and press) and do this 40 to 60 times in a row, depending on how many ton I get. I also need to show all these young cowboys that this old cowboy can still out work them any day of the week and twice on Sunday. haha. Once again thanks for your site.

Hi John,

Can you help me?
For the percentages, does that mean I should be doing each set by the percentage?

Hi Bobby

The first thing I would suggest is to change your workout days, you are not getting enough rest between workouts between Thursday & Sunday and then too much rest after Sunday. Make sure you have 48 hours rest between workouts, could you not do Thursday, Saturday, Monday, or something to that effect?

Regarding pyramid lifting, this is fine providing you are making progress in weight, make sure you keep a record, once you hit 8 reps on all 3 sets go up in weigh. However it is easier to track progress when you keep the weight the same.

Lastly, if you want to put on size you need to do compound moves, I suggest you include the following exercises into your routine: barbell bench press, back squats, deadlift, pull ups (wide grip & narrow grip), barbell shoulder press.

There is no need to do 2 exercises per muscle group, to give you an idea my full body workout consists of: bench press, back squat, standing press, pull ups & cleans. I do this 3 times per week and am getting fantastic results, getting stronger every week!

hope this helps :-)
