Hi I’m John, the owner of greatweightlifting.com, the free weight training information website. I thought I would take a few minutes out of my time to introduce myself.
Firstly, if you would like to contact me with anything related to weight lifting, please email john@greatweightlifting.com and I should be able to get back to you within 3-5 days, I receive a lot of emails so please bear with me if I don’t respond within this time period.
A Little About Me
I am 26 years old and have been lifting weights since I was 14 years old, my passion for weight lifting grows stronger year on year, its my favorite sport of all. By the way I’m the one in the picture lying on the ground benching the guy, think I managed about 8 reps
I grew up in London, England and then moved out of London to middle suburbia when I was just 9 years old. My father continued to work in London, which meant he would get up for work at 5am. During the school holidays when I was about 12 or 13 I used to get up at 5.30am and sit downstairs with my father to watch the television, we would often watch mindless infomercials about the latest advances in floor cleaning, car washing and fitness products. It was always funny, we used to laugh at these useless products, especially the fitness ones.
As much as the fitness informercials were funny I always remember being fascinated by them, I remember the strong men and women who were promoting these products and I remember thinking how good they looked.
It was then I decided I wanted to look like the men in these infomercials, I remember asking my parents if I could have a set of dumbbells for my 14th birthday, they were a bit concerned at first because I was young and they thought it would be dangerous, however on my 14th birthday I opened a big box of spinlock dumbbells, I was ecstatic, it was the best present I could have asked for!
As I got more and more into lifting weights I saved up my pocket money and worked weekends so I could buy more equipment. As I studied more about lifting weights I knew I had to buy more equipment, so I soon invested in an Olympic barbell set, a bench press and a multi gym.
Ever since then I have continued lifting weights, nowadays I go to the gym and workout for approximately 1.5 – 2 hours per workout, 3 times per week, doing a full body workout. My passion has grown so much over the years that I wanted to create a site devoted to weight lifting and help those looking for free information.
My Stats
I am by no means a big guy, I don’t have great genetics and I’m only 5′ 9″, but I work very hard and stay dedicated to weight training. My current workout routine consists of 3 full body workouts per week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) and I always do the squat & deadlift in every workout.
I have an old injury to my lower back, the injury can sometimes cause a sharp pain in my back and it also stops me from lifting heavy weights with deadlift & squat (at least thats my excuse
, however I still do them because I know how important they are, and I must admit I love the feeling of a full ATG squat or a heavy deadlift, nothing better!
So here are my PR stats (please be kind, I have a lower back injury):
Age: 26
Height: 5′ 9″
Weight: 182lbs / 83kg
Max Deadlift: 375lbs / 170kg
Max Full Squat: 286lbs / 130kg
Max Bench: 269lbs / 122.5kg
Total All 3: 930lbs / 422.5kg

Hi Jerome, do you have any requirements in what you are lifting for:
1. Size, strength, power?
2. Are you training for a certain sport?
Answering this will help me put a program together for you.
Thanks
Hey , Really interesting site, I found you on google as I am a recently qualified P.T na djust looking to refresh my knowledge. Can you recommend me some good books, on RESITANCE TRAINING SYTEMS, HYPERTROPHY, GYM BASED EXERCISES, any help you could give me would be much apreciated. May I ask are you also a personal trainer ?
Hi Sam
I love reading any Arnold Schwarzenegger bodybuilding book for hypertrophy & gym exercises, a great one for you would be “Starting strength” by Mark Rippetoe, especially if you will be training sports people!
PS – I am not a personal trainer but will be doing the qualification in the near future
Just found your site, you have some good information here. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jerry, much appreciated
